Hypnotherapy Explained

Hypnotherapy is an extremely powerful way of breaking old patterns of thought or behaviour and replacing them with positive beliefs and actions. I use hypnotherapy to give my clients freedom from unwanted behaviour and transform their lives.

What is Hypnotherapy?

There is growing acceptance, and promotion, of the benefits of hypnotherapy within the medical profession. Following a process to evaluate the evidence on the benefit of hypnotherapy, The British Psychological Society concluded, “Enough studies have now accumulated to suggest that the inclusion of hypnotic procedures may be beneficial in the management and treatment of a wide range of conditions and problems encountered in the practice of medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy.”

The American Psychological Association states that most clinicians now agree hypnosis can be a powerful, effective therapeutic technique for a wide range of conditions, including pain, anxiety and mood disorders.

"Hypnosis involves the induction of a trance or sleep-like state. Suggestions, targeting the problems, can then be given to help with the healing. Hypnosis can be tried for many different problems."

- The Royal College of Physicians.

What is Rapid Transformational Therapy?

Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) uses hypnotherapy combined with elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), neurolinguistic programming (NLP) and psychotherapy. RTT was developed by the world renowned therapist Marisa Peer based on over 30 years’ successful clinical practice. I have been personally trained by Marisa Peer, undertake continuing professional development under her guidance and receive her ongoing support.

RTT is endorsed by the General Hypnotherapy Register, the Complementary and Natural Health Care Council, the National and International Council of Psychotherapists, the American Board of Hypnotherapy and the International Association of Complementary Therapists. Increasingly GPs are recommending hypnotherapy for the treatment of various medical problems and The Royal Society of Medicine has a dedicated Hypnosis & Psychosomatic Medicine section.

I don’t believe therapy should keep you tied to me. My aim is for you to find clarity, confidence, and emotional freedom, so you no longer need me.

How Does it Work?

The subconscious mind is like a computer’s filing system. Think of your subconscious as a hard drive, where we store every experience, emotion, and thought we’ve ever had. In the relaxed state of hypnosis I can work with you to run a search on your subconscious, pulling up the repressed memories and buried emotions at the root of the issue you want to address.

All of your unhealthy current behaviours have a root cause. Through the ‘memory chip’ that has been embedded in the subconscious mind, we can trace back the experiences you had as a child, and, crucially, the beliefs you linked to those experiences, which have caused the current behaviour that is no longer good for you.

What Does it Feel Like?

Being in hypnosis means being highly relaxed which is referred to as the ‘hypnotic trance’. Most of us go in and out of the trance state regularly. If you’ve ever meant to travel a different way to work and found yourself on your normal route, forgotten all your worries whilst listening to music or been completely immersed in a book, then you have been in a trance state. During hypnosis you will be completely aware of everything that’s happening, everything you say and all the sounds around you. It is impossible to make anyone think or do something they don’t want to whilst in hypnosis.
